Forum Topping - What the Heck is it? Forum topping is a practice of always trying to keep your posts on top of others forum posts. It is possible because most forums list the most recent posts first.

Another name for this is "bumping" - posting a single word or useless message to attract attention to their own thread.

Bumpers and Forum Toppers are easy to recognize. Their posts are usually something like this:

"Thanks for the great post, I really enjoyed it."
Signed Rudolph Forum Topper
Followed by a long signature file pointing to Rudolphs web sites.

This is a total waste of forum directory space. It is also bad forum etiquette.

Some people hate forum toppers, or "ft's" or "bumpers". But it is a common practice for some people. How often do you see a reply to a post that adds nothing, zero, zip, nada, to the discussion. Frequently.

So, what do you do about Forum Toppers - ignore them, don't reply to their posts, report them to the forum moderator, and if you are a 'mod' - delete their posts until you get your message through to them.

Another option is to use 'spam trapping' software plug-ins. These work well to trap people posting off-topic or spam posts.
